Characteristics

The Sesarmid crab has a ridged and square carapace, which is approximately 2-3 cm wide. Only the anterolateral margin has tooth-like protrusions outside the eye sockets. The carapace is dark brown and has dark dots on the front. The Sesarmid crab is good at climbing and often seen active on vertical embankments. They dig burrows in the grass, offshore embankments, and farmlands near estuaries. They feed on rotten leaves or aquatic plants.

Distribution

The de Haan’s sesarmid crab’s burrows can be seen on the croplands and wastelands beside the asphalt roads at Gaomei Wetlands.
